June 28, 2003 Dear Tim,

You are right about hypothyroid being a big problem now. I've been diagnosing and treating low thyroid since the early eighties. Couple of things, not to be too picky but the underarm temp needs to be taken before the person gets out of bed. I use the Wilsons syndrome method now. Take the oral temp between meals and half way between supper and bed. If under 98 is a good clue. A kinesiology test using therapy localisation is excellent.

As far as I know only prescription thyroid contains active hormone. Glandulars cannot (as far as I know) contain any hormone and therefore Metagenics or any other glandular are usually useless. For years I have used a generic form of Armour with very good results which contains T3&T4.

I enjoy your articles. Keep up the good work.

Response: Dear Curt, Thanks for your letter. I appreciate your comments. I agree with the benefits of thyroid extract versus synthetic while I am not an expert on the absorption of glandular substances across the GI tract which I understand is an issue of contention. However the consumption of glandular organs throughout prehistory also served other nutritional and ritual purposes. Again, thanks for your interest and comments.
